Weymouth House – Media Space

The information graphic – individual project is to be displayed at Weymouth House, Bournemouth University on one of the public screens. In exploration of the space and in identifying the needs of my information graphic design, I have come to the  conclusion that the screens position must incorporate a large space which will be used by the dancers. It should be located in a n area with no disruption from individuals travelling in and out of the space plus it should also provide a good view point for the purposes of an audience. It is essential to locate both the camera position, the dancers position as well as the audiences position in relation to the space.

I evaluated each screen in relation to the space, to pinpoint which screen would be the most successful location for my information graphic display:

The following location incorporates a large given space which is indirect contact with the screen. However the screens position is seen to located in a disruptive area where there are lifts. This space would not be successful as a location for my information graphic, as of the fact that individuals will constantly be travelling to and from the lifts, which will disrupt the information graphic as well as the dancers. In addition when thinking about the audiences position the audience will have nowhere to stand accept behind the dancers which would give a unsuccessful viewpoint with relation to the performance.

2. The following location incorporates two of the public screens, one which is a double screen situated at the back of a white wall and another which is a panorama screen situated alongside a orange wall. For the purposes of this project I will not be using the panorama screen, reason being that the panorama screen will not allow me to achieve the visual image that I have designed, considering the dimensions of the screen in relation to my design. However with looking at the double screen, it is located in a large given space, which would allow the room for the dancers to take out their movements. In addition the space is not disruptive, the dancers can be situated more to the left by removing the furniture, which will allow space for people to travel in and out of the building. Furthermore there is allot of space for an audience considering the different angles of viewpoint. I feel that this space is a perfect location to place my information graphic.
3. The following location incorporates a series of six small screens. The space however is not ideal as a large pillar is located central to the space, therefore this obstacle would disrupt the dancer's from taking out movements. However there is not many people travelling in and out of this space as of it being in an enclosed area and there is room for an audience along the right hand side of the space.
3. The following location incorporates a series of six small screens. The space is however not ideal as a large pillar is located central to the space, this obstacle would potentially disrupt the dancer’s from taking out movements. On the other hand there isn’t many people travelling in and out of this space as of it being an enclosed area and there is room for an audience along the right hand side of the space.
4. The following location incorporates a double screen situated at the front entrance of Weymouth House, Bournemouth University. The location incorporates a large given space for the use of the dancers, however it is located in a disruptive area where people are travelling in and out of the building from entrance to exit. Despite this factor the room has great view points for an audience along the left hand side of the space.

In conclusion I found that the number 2 space (double screen) would be the most successful location, in that it incorporates a large given space for movement.  In addition it is located in a non-disruptive area and has potentially great view points from an audience perspective. This space needs to be further developed with regards to location of technology inputs and interaction. I have chosen this screen to display my information graphic.
