With our topic concept and Ideation we were given the following brief:
Bristol Zoo have a website ( and good overall rate of visitors. However they want to add new digital experiences to keep regular visitors engaged and to add new ones.
Working in small groups, your brief is to design a digital user experience that:
• Utilises the Zoo’s archive collection of photos and associated facts from its past 176 years.
• engages users and facilitates new kinds of interaction.
• Makes the heritage sector relevant by using new technology.
• Maximises locative aspects (ie from mobile smart phone access – to onsite installation)
• !Appeals to an audience of young families: (children 5-12 and their parents), visitors to Bristol Zoo, !animal lovers.

When put into groups we decided on producing a BristolZoo App. Which would include a Virtual Map, InstaZoo, B-ZOO Pets, 24/7 Camera & See More sections. >>

InstaZoo would include the archived images from Bristol Zoo, B-ZOO pets would be aimed for the children and can be used as your own personal tour guide. See more would allow you to see all the history of Bristol Zoo buildings and the animals. And 24/7 camera was a little extra so you could check out what the animals are doing in Bristol Zoo at all times for the laughs. Hahaha .

The main key selling point of this app is it’s interactiveness allowing you to upload and share pictures on InstaZoo to Facebook and Twitter. Being able to choose your own route round the Zoo on virtual maps and much more.

We decided in our groups that we would all have different sections in this project. I took on the InstaZoo section of the app and as you can see at the top that is my little mock up of what the selection button would look like.

I have decided to allow the addition of BristolZoo frames when users upload photos to InstaZoo also I thought of the idea of instead of liking a photo such as in Instagram you would ‘roar’ a photo. And when you click roar there would be a sound effect added of a lion roaringg…

I am also going to make a mock up of the display screen when you go into InstaZoo.
